Anne Hathaway To Make Broadway Debut In ‘Cabaret’? Hathaway’s Representative Says Broadway Rumors Are “Completely False”

Anne Hathaway is not going to appear on Broadway - yet. Recent rumors have circulated that Les Miserables actress Anne Hathaway would follow up her Oscar-winning performance of Fantine with a Broadway stage production of Cabaret as Sally Bowles, the role made famous by Liza Minelli, but Hathaway's representative explained that the rumors were false, according to Inquisitr.

The rumors of Hathaway's Broadway debut began with an exclusive report by the Daily Mail stating that Hathaway would co-star with Alan Cumming in the Cabaret production.

However, the article was quickly removed from the news site, perhaps because it was "completely false," as Hathaway's representative stated.

In an email to the New York Times, publicist Stephen Huvane wrote that Anne Hathaway currently has no plans to star on Braodway. "There is no commitment whatsoever for her to do Cabaret. There are no discussions going on about this project for Anne," Huvane said.

Cabaret will be revived on Broadway's Studio 54 next year by the Roundabout Theater Company, but not with Hathaway in it. Alan Cumming will play the M.C., a role that won him a Tony award in 1998.

Hathaway will next appear on the big screen in Don Jon alongside The Dark Night Rises star Joseph Gordon-Levitt, who will make his directorial debut with the film.

In addition, Hathaway will appear in Lynn Shelton's Laggies alongside Chloe Moretz and Sam Rockwell. The film will portray the story of a woman who lies to her fiancé to spend more time with her friends. There is no anticipated release date as of yet, since the film is in pre-production.
