Steve Nash Battling Ex Over Child Support; Los Angeles Lakers Star Says He Wants To Avoid Spoiling His Kids

Los Angeles Lakers Star, Steve Nash, is currently fighting his ex-wife, Alejandra Nash, over child support payments, TMZ reports. Nash doesn't want to pay Alejandra in child support, not because he's a deadbeat dad, but because he's worried she'll take the money and spoil his three kids rotten.

The 39-year-old Los Angeles Lakers point guard, originally from Canada, is currently in the midst of a first round playoff battle against the number 2 seed in the Western Conference, the San Antonio Spurs. But that's not the only battle that's on his mind. TMZ says Nash is locked in a legal war in Arizona with his ex-wife over child support payments.

The Arizona divorce judge handling the case, initially ruled Nash would not have to pay child support. Nash's ex got a lucrative divorce settlement and brings in $30,000 a month on her own. But Alejandra is appealing that decision.

Despite making $30,000 a month, Alejandra says Nash makes more than a million dollars more than her a month, and she thinks its unfair he doesn't send that money to help raise his three kids. Steve counters that he's already paying plenty. TMZ reports that "Steve is saying he's paying plenty - 90% of medical, school and extracurricular activities, and  82% of the nanny's $2k a month salary."

Nash goes on to say his primary concern about giving more money to Alejandra--more than he's already paying her--is that she's an "excessive spender" who will end up spoiling their kids and spend money on crazy luxuries for them, which won't allow them to grow up with the proper perspective about money.

Nash joined the Lakers in Los Angeles after getting dealt from the Phoenix Suns this off-season. The reason behind the move to their inter-conference rivals on the court, was so that Nash could remain close to his kids, who are still based in Arizona.

But Nash's ex-wife Alejandra wants to move to Los Angeles now, and TMZ previously reported that Nash objects to the move despite it bringing him close to his kids.

Perhaps part of this drama--alluded to by TMZ--is that Nash would likely be saddled with a hefty child support bill due to California's laws siding almost exclusively with the wife during divorce proceedings.

So if Alejandra and the kids moved to California, she'd have a much better chance with a Los Angeles judge awarding her child support than she's so far encountered during her legal battles with Nash in Arizona.

The Lakers lost to the Spurs last night, 120-89, putting them in a 3-0 hole that no team has ever come back from to win an NBA playoff series. Game 4 is in Los Angeles on Sunday night, and afterwards, Nash might have all the time in the world to figure out what he's going to do with his ex-wife and kids.
