9-Year-Old Girl Killed By Intruder; Brother Sees Man Run Away And Manhunt Underway

A nine-year-old girl was killed by an intruder in Valley Springs, Calif., on Saturday. The nine-year-old girl was found with multiple stab wounds in her home after her 12-year-old brother saw the intruder and called his parents, whom were currently not at home.

The child was taken to the hospital where she was later pronounced dead.

A manhunt is currently underway in Valley Springs for the man responsible for the murder. However, police said the rural, remote,  area provided plenty of places for the suspect to hide. The search continued through Saturday evening and into Sunday morning.

The victim's brother described the intruder as a six-foot white or Latino man with long gray hair. He was wearing blue pants and a black long-sleeve shirt at the time the stabbing occurred. He is considered to be armed and dangerous.

While police are using ground and air search crews and doing a house-to-house searches and in some cases extensively searching attics and storages, police are asking the public for help in finding the nine-year-old girl's attacker.

Many residents have started posting information about suspicious activity to social media. Some people claimed to have seen a prowler in the area. However, the Sheriff's office has yet to confirm or deny any of these reports.

The fatality is a sheer tragedy and Valley Springs sits in fear awaiting the capture of the brutal, cold-hearted attacker.

"It's hard to even imagine how somebody could do that," neighbor Mike Harris told CBS News.
