Tsarnaev $100K Benefits: Family Collected Over $100K in Welfare Benefits

The Tsarnaev family has reportedly collected more than $100,000 in welfare benefits through 2012 from Massachusetts.

The Boston Marathon bombing suspects Tamerlan and Dzhohkar Tsarnaev is reported to have received cash aid, food stamps, Section 8 housing and other benefits from 2002 to 2012.

The welfare payments received by Tsarnaev family, who claimed political refugee status, were given by the Transitional Assistance.

It seems the Tsarnaev family, including the parents of the two bombing suspects, the two suspects themselves, their sisters, the widow of the suspected killed and their child, received "every conceivable public benefit available out there."

"The breadth of the benefits the family was receiving was stunning," a source told Boston Herald.

State lawmakers launched an investigation as to whether the suspects improperly received public benefits. More than 500 documents were handed over to the 11-member House Post Audit and Oversight Committee on Monday from state agencies.

"This is just the beginning of an ongoing inquiry," committee chairman David Paul Linsky said, as he declined to share whether there was any signs of impropriety.

"I can assure members of the public that this committee will actively review every single piece of information we can find because clearly the public has a substantial right to know what benefits, if any, this family or individuals accused of some horrific crimes were receiving," Linsky said.
