Maria Shriver New Job: Shriver Returns to NBC To Anchor Women's Issues

Maria Shriver has a new job. Shriver left her anchor job almost a decade ago, but she will return to NBC for a job as "special anchor" where she will focus on the roles of women in American life.

In her new job, Shriver, the former California first lady will appear on several of the network's programs as an anchor and editor at large on women's issues.

Maria Shriver originally left NBC in 2004 after almost two decades with the network.  The "Dateline NBC" host left, in part, because there was protest that, as wife of California governor Arnold Schwarzenegger, there was a conflict of interest. Shriver and Schwarzenegger are currently in the process of divorce.

Goodbye wasn't forever, though. On her blog, Shriver wrote "The truth is I never took a leave from journalism...I just took my reporter's skills and used them in other arenas." Neal Shapiro, her boss at NBC, referred to her exit as "an extended leave of absence".

Shriver is excited to return to a job at NBC, writing that she will "shine a light on women's evolving roles as providers, parents, caretakers and caregivers - the pressures they face and how our society might adapt to support them."

Shriver also has a production company, which she will continue to run, according to reports. In addition, NBC will have exclusive broadcast access to her serial Shriver Reports, a series she produces about issues facing women. She will address women's financial insecurity in the next Shriver report, expected to air in 2014.
