J.J. Abrams Hints At John Williams’ Return To Score ‘Star Wars: Episode VII’; Carrie Fisher Rumored To Reprise ‘Princess Leia’ Role [VIDEO]

J.J. Abrams hinted that John Williams, who composed the original Star Wars score, would return for the reboot due out in the summer of 2015 - Star Wars: Episode VII.

John Williams' music is as iconic in the classic science fiction films as Jedis, Han Solo and Luke Skywalker. So, when J.J. Abrams teased that Williams would score the new Star Wars reboot, fans collectively gasped.

Abrams made the 'announcement' during a press conference in Berlin for Star Trek: Into Darkness. The director said, "Again, for Star Wars, it's very early days, but I believe that, going forward, John Williams will be doing that film because he was there long before I was."

Abrams continued, "We're just getting started. There are infinitely more questions than answers right now, but to me, [Star Wars and Star Trek are] not that dissimilar. Though I came at these both from very different places, where they both meet is a place of 'Ooh, that's really exciting.' And even though I was never a Star Trek fan, I felt like there was a version of it that would make me excited, that I would think 'That's cool, that feels right, I actually would want to see that.'"

John Williams has composed the soundtracks for all six Star Wars films to date. His work on those films and others, including Jurassic Park; Jaws and Indiana Jones, constitutes some of the most recognizable film scores of all time.

John Williams isn't the only original member of the Star Wars crew rumored to be returning for the Abrams reboot.

Carrie Fisher, who played Princess Leia in the original Star Wars films, was asked at the Calgary Comic Expo whether she would appear in Star Wars: Episode VII. The Calgary Herald reported Fisher as saying, "I'm glad [Disney is] doing a new movie because they are sending a trainer to my house so I can get in really good shape. So I'm really eating a lot of sugar in advance, as you can see. By the time I really get down to it I will have eaten everything."

Fans of the actress and franchise jumped to the conclusion that the fact that Fisher is training points to her appearing in the new Star Wars movie, but nothing has been confirmed.

Disney plans to release Star Wars: Episode VII in the summer of 2015.
