Jury Finds Jodi Arias Guilty Of First-degree Murder

An Arizona jury reached a verdict on Wednesday in the murder trial of Jodi Arias and finds her guilty of first-degree murder. Arias is accused of killing her ex-boyfriend in a sensational case that involved "sex, lies and dirty little secrets" that drew worldwide attention, Reuters reported.

Arias, 32, could face the death penalty for this conviction. Prosecuters will now have the chance to present additional evidence. Jurors will have to decide whether Alexander's death was caused in a cruel manner.

Jodi Arias admitted to shooting 30-year-old Travis Alexander, whose body was found in his shower in June 2008. Arias claimed it was self-defense after he attacked her in a violent rage because she had dropped his camera while taking photos of him in the shower. He had been shot in the face, stabbed 27 times, and his throat had been slit.

The jury, made up of eight men and four women, reached its verdict on the third full day of deliberations.

The trial began in early January. It was full of graphic testimony and evidence, including a sex tape. The trial was streamed live on the Internet and drew extensive media attention.
