Tim Tebow Blackballed From NFL Because Of 'TebowMania' Media 'Circus,' Says One NFL General Manager

Is Tim Tebow blackballed from competing for a quarterback spot in the NFL? That's what general managers and executives are claiming, as Tebow has failed to sign with a team after being released from the New York Jets.

The Tim Tebow blackballed question was recently asked  by Y! Sports' Michael Silver, who spoke to general managers and executives around the league to see why exactly Tim Tebow is blackballed from playing in the NFL after playing so well during the Denver Broncos' magical 2011 run to the postseason.

Despite Tebow's flawed delivery, and his questionable mechanics as a starting quarterback in the NFL, the Tim Tebow blackballed campaign lies more in the media scrutiny he engenders. The public, ESPN and others can't get enough of the Tebow narrative, and that's the largest reason Tim Tebow has been blackballed.

One NFC coach told Silver on Wednesday "He seems like a great guy to have on a team, and I'd be tempted to bring him in as our backup, but it's just not worth dealing with all the stuff that comes with it."

Another spoke out about how Tim Tebow has been blackballed, as an NFC offensive coordinator told Silver last spring that Tebow carries more of a stigma than Terrell Owens, the embattled former Dallas Cowboys, Philadelphia Eagles and San Francisco 49ers wide receiver.

One AFC coach put it more bluntly to Silver about why Tim Tebow is blackballed from the NFL, "You don't want to put up with the circus."

Despite Tebow's incredible performance for the Broncos in 2011, General Manager John Elway couldn't wait to get rid of Tebow after signing Peyton Manning during the 2012 summer. And after landing on the Jets as a back-up center who could replace the struggling Mark Sanchez, he hardly ever played, serving as a back-up for the Jets' punt team and barely getting any snaps at the quarterback position.

An AFC coach couldn't understand why Tebow was so under-used in New York, and it might got a long way towards understanding the why Tim Tebow's blackballed from the league so far this summers.

Said the AFC coach to Silver, "I don't understand what the Jets did. You have to have a plan for him, but they had no idea what they were doing. I do think they were shocked how bad he looked in practice and in the preseason ... how bad his accuracy was. But why make the trade for the guy if you're not clear on how to use his abilities?"

First-year Chicago Bears coach, Marc Trestman, told Silver before the 2010 draft, "in the right environment...Tim Tebow can develop into being an elite quarterback in the NFL," so why is Tim Tebow blackballed from the league?

That's not quite clear, but as Tebow flounders without an NFL franchise, the Tim Tebow blackballed talk continues to gain steam even as general managers don't offer up any concrete reasons why it has continued.
