The Joss Whedon $100m Payday For 'The Avengers 2' Is Not True According to Joss Whedon [Video Interview Avengers 2]

The Joss Whedon $100m fee for The Avengers 2 after the success of the original Marvel Avengers film isn't true the actor says, after reports surfaced about the Joss Whedon $100m fee angered some of the other actors involved who are getting a much lower rate to appear in the sequel.

Deadline reported the Joss Whedon $100m fee for The Avengers 2 earlier this week, amid a report that contract negotiations for The Avengers 2 had experienced some setbacks in recent weeks, most notably with Iron Man star, Robert Downey Jr.

But the report also mentioned that Joss Whedon $100m fee for The Avengers 2 after the writer and director made the third highest-grossing film of all time with Marvels: The Avengers in 2012.

On August 7, 2012, it was confirmed that Joss Whedon would return to help write and direct the sequel to The Avengers following a deal with Marvel studios that will expire after three years, in June of 2015. The Avengers 2 will premiere on May 1, 2015, but the Joss Whedon $100m fee is still being debated in the blogosphere after Whedon contradicted Deadline's report.

Deadline wrote:

"Acknowledging 'I'm doing okay' compensation wise, Whedon reportedly has a 'really rich deal' worth an astronomical $100M for a combination of product and services including several pics, consulting work, a put pilot at ABC, and many other elements that effectively take him off the marketplace for years and years, one source tells me."

The source appears to be mistaken since the Joss Whedon $100m fee isn't accurate, says Whedon himself, responding on Whedonesque by writing:

"Hi guys.

I was going to let it slide, but I've got this sour taste in my mouth. (Mmmm, lemonade!). Some facts are not facts. I'm not going to go into the whole thing, but jeepers, I'm not getting $100 mil on Avengers 2. If I were, I would come on this site and laugh and laugh and laugh. I'm not making Downey money. I'm making A LOT, which is exciting. I'm not pretending to be a poor farmer, an Everyman, an ANYman. But that number is nuts. A few other things about me that have been "reported" that people should take with a grain of salt:

That I throw wild Hollywood parties where everyone is naked and dancing and wild and I remember to serve enough snacks.

That I can get a movie greenlit by sighing and staring into the middle distance.

That I ate a unicorn and made it winter for three years.

That I 'can write.'"

Marvel and Disney might not be paying Joss Whedon $100m, but they're certainly paying him a lot and implicitly acknowledging the writer and director's contributions to The Avengers can't be overlooked even as they continue to negotiate a contract for "the highest-grossing superhero of all time" Iron Man star, Robert Downey Jr.

The rest of the cast is reportedly making a lot less than the Joss Whedon $100m figure, even if that's not the actual amount, and it remains to be seen whether the notoriously cheap chief of Disney and Marvel will shell out the big bucks to bring every actor and actress back for the sequel to the third-highest grossing film of all time, The Avengers.
