Seth Meyers to Replace Jimmy Fallon on "Late Night," NBC Pleased

Yesterday, May 12, NBC confirmed that Saturday Night Live's head writer and Weekend Update anchor, Seth Meyers, will replace Jimmy Fallon as host of the "Late Show" this fall when Fallon moves to the "Tonight Show."

"We couldn't be happier that Seth and Jimmy Fallon will be continuing their careers at NBC, after growing up in this network's late night legacy," NBC Entertainment chairman Bob Greenblatt announced in Sunday's announcement.

Meyers was immediately considered a perfect replacement for SNL alumnus, Fallon, when it was announced in April of this year that Fallon would be replacing Jay Leno in 2014 after the Winter Olympics.

"We think Seth is one of the brightest, most insightful comedy writers and performers of his generation," said Greenbatt.

Greenbatt went on to add that Meyers' 12 seasons on SNL "helped him hone a topical brand of comedy that is perfect for the Late Night franchise."

Meyers has graced NBC's 8H Studio for twelve seasons as a cast member of "SNL," eight seasons as head writer, and seven seasons as the "Weekend Update" anchor.

Meyers will also return to SNL next fall for the first half of the season and will remain on SNL until January when he will begin preparing for is new job at NBC.

There have no announcements yet about who will replace Meyers has head writer or as "Weekend Update" anchor next January.

Fallon was featured on SNL for six seasons from 1988 to 2004. Fallon would later take over as "Late Night" host in 2009 for fellow SNL alumnus Conan O'Brien after O'Brien left the show to prepare for his new endeavor as the "Tonight Show" host, when O'Brien was originally announced to replace Jay Leno.

The premiere date for "Late Night with Seth Meyers" is not officially known at the moment and will be announced at a later date.
