iPhone 6 Release Date, Specs, Rumors; Concept Designer Ran Avni Shows What Plastic iPhone 6 Could Look Like [VIDEO]

Recently, rumors have suggested that Apple would release a plastic iPhone 6, which would be a cheaper version of the iPhone. The new iPhone, which could be named the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S, is expected to release in sometime this year. The release date will likely be confirmed at Apple's Worldwide Developer's Conference next month.

Over the weekend, concept designer Ran Avni uploaded a YouTube video sharing his idea of what a plastic iPhone would look like. Check out the video below:

Aside from having a plastic casing, the iPhone 6 could have fully functional widgets on the smartphone's home screen.

Digital content specialist SimplyZesty put together prototypes of the next iPhone, with the addition of widgets. Gotta Be Mobile claims that this iOS redesign is in line with Apple chief designer Jony Ive's vision. Widgets are, allegedly, regularly on Apple users' wish lists, and have yet to make their way onto iOS devices.

The Widgets will likely be unveiled as part of the iOS 7 introduction at Apple's WWDC in June.

The iPhone 6 is expected to feature a Retina or IGZO screen display, A7 quad core chip processor, iOS 7, 128GB internal storage, and a 13-megapixel camera.

In addition, the next iPhone may have multiple screen size options. Trusted analyst Brian White said, "iPhone 5S buyers could have their choice of screen size. We believe Apple is coming around to the fact that one size per iPhone release does not work for everyone, and offering consumers an option has the potential to expand the company's market share."

The iPhone 6 or 5S is expected to release in the third quarter of 2013. Last week, rumors circulated that Apple's manufacturing partners in China had received the required parts to start building the next iPhone.

In addition, Apple reportedly signed a contract with Sharp in Japan, who would begin building LCD panels for Apple's smartphones in June, IBTimes reported.

Apple CEO Tim Cook also hinted that the iPhone 6 would be released this year. He said, "Our teams are hard at work on some amazing new hardware, software, and services that we can't wait to introduce this fall and throughout 2014."

The expected release date for Apple's new handsets running iOS 7, the iPhone 6/5S and the low-cost version, is between August and September.

Shortly after that, the iPad Mini 2 and the iPad 5 are expected to debut in the fourth quarter of 2013.

The Apple 'phablet' with a 4.8-inch screen is expected to arrive in the summer of 2014.
