2013 BET Awards Nominee List Revealed; Drake Leads Nomination List

This year's BET Awards could get a wee bit awkward for some of the nominees. The 2013 BET Awards will take place on June 30th at the Nokia Theatre in LA, which gives nominees Drake, Chris Brown and Rihanna a few weeks to prep for being in the same vicinity together. The trio are just a few of the nominees for the awards show, with Drake leading the pack by landing an astounding 12 nominations. The high nomination count is somewhat deceiving, though, because of the nods come from the same category. Drake has five different nominations for Video of the Year, four for Best Collaboration and a nod for Best Male Hip-Hop Artist, among his potential accolades.

Kendrick Lamar and 2 Chainz are each tied for second with eight nominations each, followed by A$AP Rocky with five and Justin Timberlake, Jay-Z and Miguel with four each. Rihanna leads the pack among the ladies with three nominations for Best Female R&B Artist, Video of the Year and Coca-Cola Viewers Choice Award, the latter two both for "Diamonds".

Perhaps the most surprising part of the nominations is the absence of Frank Ocean, who was given a big fat zero for this year. However, it probably speaks to the fact that his songs are critically-acclaimed, but not necessarily mainstream friendly. Ultimately, BET has to uphold the "Television" part of its name.
