George Michael airlifted to hospital after a car crash in the UK Thursday. Doctors said he is expected to be ok.

The accident took place in England in a single-car crash that forced the musician, singer, songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and record producer, George Michael airlifted to hospital in an emergency. His rep said he should be ok and only suffered cuts from the crash.

A rep for Michael said no other vehicles were involved in the crash that forced George Michael aiflifted to hospital on Thursday. The rep told TMZ that Michael was a passenger in a Range Rover that crashed on the M1 motorway around 5:50 p.m. local time.

"George sustained a head injury and following treatment, stabilization and immobilization by land and air ambulance crews, he was flown to the hospital for further care," according to a statement from a rep for the emergency response crew.

A member of the former band Wham!, Michael broke away from the success there and became a solo-artist. His first single, "Careless Whisper" sold more than six million copies worldwide, according to songfacts.com.

George Michael sold more than 100 million albums throughout his career. He sang his way to seven singles that were number one in the UK and eight that landed on the Billboard 100 list in the U.S.
