Emma Watson Portrays a Criminal in New Sophia Coppola film, "The Bling Ring"

Emma Watson shows the world once again that her days of "Hermione Granger" will forever be in the past taking on a new role in "The Bling Ring."

Emma Watson latest role portrays the actress as a criminal as part of a celebrity-obsessed teenage gang robbing their Hollywood idols' home, in the new movie "The Bling Ring."

"The Bling Ring", is written and directed by Sofia Coppola. The film focuses on the true story of gang that stole $3 million of luxury goods from celebrities including Paris Hilton and Lindsay Lohan.

According to Yahoo News, Emma Watson said her main challenge was to work out why these teenagers, from mainly wealthy backgrounds, were so preoccupied with celebrities. Her research involved watching reality TV shows like "Keeping up with the Kardashians" and "The Hills."

Emma Watson's claim to fame came at the mere age of nine, when the young starlet was cast to play Hermione Granger in the "Harry Potter" saga. She has since worked on several movies very different from "Harry Potter," including "The Perks of Being a Wallflower," and "My Week With Marilyn."

Watson has been reported to finish her senior year at Brown University soon, but has postponed her academic career to allow herself time to work on new film projects.

"The Bling Ring has received favorable reviews and has been described as a "wily critique of celebrity culture" and an "intuitive and atmospheric tale" with a great soundtrack according to Yahoo News.

Coppola said "The Bling Ring", which will be released in the United States in June, was a comment on culture today, both the teenagers' obsession with the celebrity life and the celebrities themselves with houses overflowing with expensive goods according to Yahoo News.

The film was debuted this Thursday at the Cannes Festival, the largest film festival.
