PS4 News: Job Ad Reveals Speech Recognition In Sony PlayStation 4; PS4 Ad Tagline Will Be “Greatness Awaits”

A job posting on LinkedIn hints at an interesting development for the PS4. Sony's Computer Entertainment division, which has been working nonstop on the PS4 for it's 2013 Holiday release date, posted an ad looking for a "speech recognition intern."

The Sony ad says the the PS4 intern will work on "robust speech feature extraction" and "processing of noisy speech with human voice in the background."

Translated, that ad means Sony wants an engineer intern to help bring speech recognition to the PS4.

The LinkedIn job post was originally discovered by IGN. Tasks will include handling of "speech noise reduction, speech detection, recognition, noisy rejection, and grammar processing under various environments."

Other intern duties are, "Robust speech feature extraction and signal processing for speech enhancement, speech enhance and processing of noisy speech with human voice in the background." Such background noise that would be found in a living room, for example.

Although this rumor is unconfirmed, and the ad doesn't state what hardware the intern will work on, it's a safe assumption that it is the PS4.

Fans of the Sony PS4 got a first view of the new PlayStation console in February, when photos of the DualShock 4 controller and an Eye add-on for motion control were leaked. In addition, a double-camera and 'four channel microphone array' were revealed, according to Tech Radar.

The four-channel microphone array could very well be used for voice control and noise cancellation.

Another leak regarding the PS4 occurred today, but unfortunately it doesn't reveal any design or spec elements. The ad tagline for the Sony PS4 was released - "Greatness Awaits."

Silicon Era reported the leak of the PS4 tagline and the script for the first PS4 commercial. The commercial allegedly features "a lone man walks down an empty street asking the viewer, 'who are you not to be great? You, with the imagination of a brilliant child and the powers of an ancient god.'" The man continues, and the commercial ends with tagline "Greatness Awaits," according to Brand Channel.

Although the PS4 is expected to release for the 2013 holiday season, a #Playstation2013 video went up on YouTube late in January. It has received 7.5 million views since then.

More information about the PS4 is expected at the video game industry's largest trade show, E3, which kicks off on June 11.
