Madeline McCann Case May Have New Suspects, Parents "Very Pleased" With Review

Madeline McCann case may  have new suspects. Madeleine McCann's parents told press today that they were "very, very pleased" with a review of their daughter's disappearance from the Scotland Yard. Investigators have apparently identified "more than a handful of people of interest" in the their daughter's disappearance.

The review, called Operation Grange, identified "both investigative and forensic opportunities," according to has Detective Chief Superintendent Hamish Campbell. People of interest will be explored further.

Madeline disappeared from her family's vacation rental in Portugal in 2007. Madeline was nearly four years old when she vanished from the apartment in Praia da Luz in Portugal's Algarve on May 3 2007. Her parents were eating dinner nearby with friends at a tapas restaurant.

Madeleine's parents Kate and Gerry reiterated their support, saying they were encouraged by the review.

Their spokesman said, "Kate and Gerry remain very, very pleased with the work that Scotland Yard are doing and have been encouraged by Operation Grange from the day it began. Beyond that, they simply will not comment on what are police operational matters."

Earlier this month, they marked the sixth anniversary of Madeline's disappearance with a statement saying that police were "more determined than ever" in Operation Grange.

Kate and Gerry continue to hope their daughter is found alive.

"In many ways things haven't changed and you could argue that, with the Met review two years in, we are actually in a better place because so much more information has been collated and lots of pieces of the jigsaw have been filled," Mr McCann told press.

They were encouraged by the reappearance of Berry, Gina DeJesus and Michelle Knight in Cleveland, Ohio, a decade after they disappeared, saying the rescue "reaffirmed" their hope.

"Their recovery is also further evidence that children are sometimes abducted and kept for long periods," they said.

Their family, including twins Sean and Amelie, now 8 has found a "new normality," they said.

Mrs. McCann said, "it's six years on, but the way the Met review is going is really positive and with that, new hope. The search goes on, in a major way."
