American Idol Finale Record Low Ratings: Viewers In Final Episode Dropped 33 Percent From 2012 Finale

The “American Idol” finale brought record low ratings, according to the Associated Press. Last Thursday night's show plunged to a record low for the 12-year-old show.

According to Nielsen Co. figures Friday, Candice Glover’s victory over Kree Harrison, was only watched by 14.3 million viewers, a 33 percent drop from the year before when 21.5 million viewers saw Phillip Phillips claim the “Idol” crown during the 2012 show.

The 2012 season finale was the “American Idol”’s previous record low finale.

“American Idol” saw an even bigger 44 percent drop among the advertiser-coveted young adults for Thursday’s final episode.

The lack of interest in the winner of this year’s contest parallels the show’s declining ratings for the season. Fox is scrambling to revive the singing contest that once dominated TV in its earlier seasons. Rumors have surfaced that all four judges from the current season have been axed and that the format of the whole show will be changed for Season 13.

The last remaining original judge from the show, Randy Jackson, announced that this is his final season.
