Plane Makes Belly Landing At Newark International Airport; All Passengers and Crew Members On American Airlines Flight Are Safe WIth No Injuries[VIDEO]

A US flight made an emergency belly landing at Newark International Airport. All 34 passengers and three crew members landed safely at 1 a.m on Saturday due to the pilot's astonishing landing of the plane.

The belly landing was a shock to the flyers, anticipating a short journey. The plane leaving Philadelphia on Piedmont Airlines flight 4560 was expected to be a simple, speedy flight, but turned chaotic when landing gear proved to be malfunctioning.

The plane circled Newark in a holding pattern while working to get the gear down. After several failed attempts to get the gear down, the plane landed on its belly. Passengers were then evacuated on the tarmac and transported to the terminal.

Successful belly landings with no fatalities are very rare because of the threat of fire from the plane skidding on a hard surface.  In this case the skilled pilot made the belly landing with flashing sparks on its stomach but acquired no flames.

The airport was closed for an hour until normalcy was restored.  The plane was made by De Havilland of Canada, which is owned by Bombardier Inc.  American Airlines and Newark Airport experts are investigating what caused the plane's glitch.

The incident comes nearly three weeks after a Scandinavian Airlines plane that left Newark Airport clipped the wing of an ExpressJet. 252 people were on board and again there were no injuries.

With two strikes on Newark Airport, they better be extra careful with their planes. They may not get so lucky next time with such highly proficient pilots. Broken planes are just not acceptable.
