George Michael Will Spend `A Few More Days’ in the Hospital After Car Crash

George Michael, the famed 80s British pop star, will have to stay in the hospital for a few more days after a scary car crash he had on Thursday.

Earlier reports were saying that the former member of the duo Wham, had been discharged from the hospital. He was airlifted to the hospital with head injuries following an accident on Britain’s M1 highway during rush hour on Friday. The 49-year-old singer was a passenger in a Range Rover when it crashed.

According to a relative who had stopped Michael’s home to walk his dog, "George is OK, recovering in hospital and he will spend a few more days in there."

Fadi Fawaz, 39, George Michael’s long-term boyfriend, told reporters that there was nothing to be worried about, “He is perfectly fine. Of course I was worried, but I spoke to him and he is good. He suffered a few bruises but there is nothing to worry about."

Connie Filippello, a spokesman for Michael, said: "George Michael was a passenger in a vehicle involved in a traffic accident yesterday evening. No third party was involved.” The spokesman added that the singer only had "superficial cuts" and was "fine.”

Following the crash the M1 Southbound carriageway near St Albans, Hertfordshire, was closed for about 30 minutes to allow the air ambulance to land. Two people were in the car at the time of the crash.

No arrests have been made.

Michael was given an eight-week sentence in September 2010, for crashing his car while driving under the influence of cannabis. The singer was fined £1,250 at Highbury Corner Magistrates Court in London and given a five-year driving ban. The pop star was arrested in Hampstead, north London, after driving his Range Rover into a branch of photographic store Snappy Snaps.

A police spokesman said “The exact circumstances of what happened are unclear at this time and until further investigations have been carried out, it would be inappropriate for us to comment." An East of England Air Ambulance spokesman said on Friday that "A man was immobilized on a spinal board as a precautionary measure, then flown to a trauma center for further tests after receiving a head injury.

The injuries are non-life threatening." No other vehicles were involved in the accident.
