Melissa McCarthy Fires Extra On 'Tammy' Set After Witnessing Mistreatment Of Child

On the set of her new movie, "Tammy," Melissa McCarthy fires extra after witnessing her treating her child harshly and in a physical manner that disrupted production.

The 42-year-old Melissa McCarthy is set to make her directorial debut as the co-writer and co-director of Tammy, a film she wrote with husband, Ben Falcone. Before the McCarthy fires extra story gains traction though, it's important to note what the Bridesmaids star is hoping to do with the material.

McCarthy firing the extra doesn't take away from the story she's trying to tell.

Melissa told Entertainment Weekly about the plot of the movie. McCarthy explained that her main character is "kind of falling apart and has to get out of town but her car is broken down."

"So she ends up on the road with her grandma, who has drinking problem for sure. They both have their issues they're not acknowledging and they're leaving town without knowing where they're going. I love that there's something that happens in a car with people where all bets off. You're off your rhythm, off your schedule, you're forced to be completely adaptable or die," McCarthy said.

Shirley MacLaine was set to play the role of McCarthy's mother, but after she fell through, Susan Sarandon stepped up to play the titular Tammy's mom.

McCartney has hosted SNL. She's appeared in film and television roles, and is next due on the big screen in the Sandra Bullock cop buddy movie, The Heat, coming out the weekend of June 28. However, it's McCartney's treatment of the extra on the set of Tammy that has everyone buzzing.

Why Melissa McCartney fired the extra is pretty clear from the accounts on the set. The "McCartney fires extra" headline is misleading, making it appear as if Melissa McCartney fires an extra, with no reason behind it.

But, McCartney fired the extra because she was being abusive and loud to her child, aged 4-5, sources told TMZ, who originally broke the story.

Reports TMZ via sources on the set:

"Sources say the last straw came when the mom harshly jerked the child up in the air by the wrist -- and McCarthy saw it all. The director IMMEDIATELY had PAs bounce the woman ... saying she wouldn't tolerate abuse on her set ... and that was that."

So McCartney fired an extra BECAUSE she was being loud and obnoxious on a movie set and endangering her child.
