Arrested Development Netflix Premiere Gains High Anticipation: More Original Series Set To Premiere

The return of "Arrested Development" this Sunday is raising anticipation for fans and Netflix viewers, with more online original series set to debut in the near future.

Following "Arrested Development's" primetime cancelation seven years earlier by FOX, Netflix has emerged as a pivotal resource for media entertainment, including reviving fallen cult favorites.

"There really aren't a lot of shows that get to come back together, at least under these circumstances, where it's not a desperate retread and no one's really done much since the show went off the air," said "Arrested" star Jason Bateman.

"This was a celebratory gathering, a lot of good news, and we knew that we were being included in this effort that Netflix is making to change the way television is brought to people. We're just fortunate to be a part of that."

With Netflix's foray into original programming, shows like "Arrested Development" and "House of Cards" are just the beginning.

Following the comedic footsteps of the Bluth family, this July will see the debut of Netflix original dramedy "Orange is the New Black."

Helmed by Showtime's "Weeds" creator Jenji Kohan, the series is based off of Piper Kerman's memoir "Orange is the New Black: My Year in a Women's Prison."

"I pitched to them while I was still doing 'Weeds'," said the showrunner in an interview with Bloomberg Businessweek.

"They said, 'OK, let's make thirteen of those. That never happens. That's what you dream about. They were all in, which is delightful and a dream come true."

Netflix also has an animated series set to premiere in December called "Turbo: F.A.S.T.," based off of the upcoming Dreamworks film "Turbo."

This is Netflix's first venture into children's animation, with 56 11-minute episodes planned for the time being, according to the Huffington Post.

Other upcoming currently planned for next year include "Narcos," a drama series centered on Colombian drug lord Pablo Escobar, and sci-fi drama "Sense8," a series between "Matrix"-famed Washowskis and "Babylon 5" creator J. Michael Straczynski.
