Donkeys Suspected In Mauling Attack That Killed 65-Year-Old Man: Police Yet To Release Cause Of Death

Sandor Horvath died on May 13 in Magyarszecsod, Hungary with two donkeys suspected in a mauling attack which allegedly ended in the man being dragged some 55 yards, says ABC News.

Horvath, a retired firefighter, reportedly was dragged off of his motorcycle by two donkeys that were kept in a neighboring farm.

With brutal signs of trampling and bite marks, his friend initially suspected it was a wolf attack, reports MSN.

Despite such speculations, the cause of death has yet to be officially revealed following an autopsy by a local medical examiner.

The case, handled by the Vas County Police, is especially confounding, given that donkeys do not normally attack humans.

"They probably reacted like this as they thought the victim was intruding upon their territory," said a local vet.

A similar attack was reported in 2012 for the death of William Bohlke, U.S. Hollywood Park Mayor, most likely from being trampled to death based on the bruising and hoof prints on the body.

Bohlke, a prize-winning cattle rancher, was found in his Atascosa County ranch, reports The Daily Mail.

"[Donkeys] can become aggressive, very mean, sometimes triggered by a female in heat," added Atascosa County Chief Deputy David Soward to the International Science Times.

Currently, the donkeys are being kept under observation and their fates will be decided in the upcoming week, reports Canada Now.

Others, however, believe the animals will be euthanized regardless of the autopsy report.
