Debra Messing Divorce Guilt: 'Will And Grace' Actress Shares Her Feelings About Failed Marriage, Says 'We Really Tried' To Give Son A Perfect Life

Debra Messing's divorce guilt still is active for the actress, as she opened up in More magazine about how she really feels about her failed marriage to Daniel Zelman.

'Will and Grace' actress Debra Messing talked about her divorce guilt in an interview that will appear as a feature in the June issue of the magazine. Messing said that she really hoped that her marriage to Zelman would last forever.

But unfortunately, the their expectations did not pan out. After 10 years of marriage, the two filed for divorce in June of last year.

"We both wanted it to last forever, and it's a sad thing that it wasn't able to go the course," Messing shared. 

The actress said that she always deals with her divorce guilt - that she and her ex-husband cannot give their 9-year old son a perfect life they wanted him to have.

"Part of me will always contend with guilt that I wasn't able to give my son the fantasy that my parents were able to give me," the actress said.

It was very difficult for Messing and Zelman to work through their marriage, especially because they work on opposite coasts. However, the two parents are doing a great job with their son.

"We really tried," she says. "We made sacrifices and compromises, and in the end we both realized that we like the day-to-day domestic life." The two even spent Thanksgiving Day together with their boy, Roman.  

Debra Messing is well-known for her characters in television shows such as "Will & Grace", "Smash" and "Starter Wife".

In 2003, she was able to bag a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Lead Actress in a Comedy Series for her performance in "Will & Grace." Daniel Zelman works as an executive producer for the FX TV drama series, "Damages."
