Samsung Galaxy S4 Camera Performs Better Than iPhone 5 In Mobile Phone Camera Tests

DxO Labs conducted a series of mobile phone camera tests and the results may surprise consumers: Samsung Galaxy S4 was considered better than the much-hyped iPhone 5 in camera tests.

The French DxO Labs specializes in camera optics and image sensor analysis.

As part of their mobile-phone camera tests, Samsung's new Galaxy S4 with an Android operating system was awarded a score of 75 this week.

Apple's iPhone 5 was right behind it with a score of 72.

The Nokia 808 Pureview actually beat both phones with a high score of 77, but analysts say it's Symbian operating system is a failure when compared to Apple's iOS and Samsung's Android.

But Nokia might end up besting them after all if their new Enos phone with a large image sensor and high-end Zeiss lens like the Pureview but with the Window Phone's superior operating system.

Then again, the iPhone 6 or iPhone 5S might blow them all out of the water, whenever it arrives.

Since the advent of smart phones, separate camera-only devices have gone the way of the dinosaurs.

People prefer a camera they can have on them at all times that can easily upload images to Instagram, Facebook, Twitter or any number of social networking sites.

Sharing photos is so important now that having superior picture quality is something smart phone manufacturers spend a lot time developing.

It wasn't an all out victory for the Samsung Galaxy. The iPhone suffered fewer image processing artifacts and video stabilization was superior to the Android.

But the Android outdid the rival iPhone in most categories for still photos and video.

Does this mean the reported market share Apple is said to be gaining with the release of the iPhone 5S  or iPhone 6 might not go down as advertised?

We'll see, but the battle between the Samsung Galaxy series and Apple's iPhone's is far from over, even if Android won this battle.

Here is the DxO Labs breakdown of the camera tests between the Samsung Galaxy 4S and Apple iPhone 5.
