Students Strip Searched During Exam Protest

An entire classroom of students were strip searched during an exam due to a missing cell phone. Now, the Canadian students are protesting what they call their teacher's inappropriate behavior during the strip search over a simple test.

During an exam, a missing cell phone sparked concerns of cheating. But the teacher's reaction, the students say, was extreme. Twenty-eight students were told to disrobe for a strip search after a cell phone went missing during a math exam.

The students were put into a small room, told to take off garments including their bras, and several were even physically touched by administrators, they claim.

The students, tenth graders at Cap-Jeunesse high school, north of Montreal, Quebec, Canada, are protesting the strip search.   Teenagers are notoriously self-conscious, so it should come as no surprise that they weren't happy about having to disrobe in public. The students at the school are calling for their teacher to be disciplined or fired.

The school defended itself, saying, "In the heat of the action, the decision seemed the best," spokeswoman Nadyne Brochu said. They further defended themselves by saying that parents were notified. But Brochu also partially apologized, saying that it was a "disproportionate action under the circumstances."

The parents of all students who were strip-searched were notified, and the students will be able to retake the exam. But the fact that these actions were made is, according to the protesters, a partial admission of wrongdoing. They are calling for an official apology or for the teacher who forced the students to undergo the strip search to be suspended.
