Drunk Couple Stab Each Other After Arguing Over “American Idol” Winner
A couple in Pennsylvania stab each other after an argument broke out over who would win this season of "American Idol." Accounts regarding the actual events leading up to the stabbing vary between the couple.
Karen Elaine Harrelson, 48, and Gregory Stambaugh, 57, had been drinking heavily throughout the day, NY Daily News reports.
According to the Daily Mail, Harrelson told police she had four beers that night. Stambaugh accused Harrelson of drinking beer and tequila since 5am that morning. He said he had a single beer and a pint of scotch after joining her around noon.
Harrelson said she went upstairs during the "American Idol" episode to cut a piece of cake. She claims her fiancé, Stambaugh, followed her up the stairs and grabbed a second knife. He slashed her wrist and then hit her over the head and threw her onto the floor.
Stambaugh's injuries on his left forearm were made in self-defense, Harrelson said.
Stambaugh, on the other hand, said he remained in the basement. Allegedly, Harrelson came downstairs with a knife and tried to cut him on the arm. He said he chased her back into the kitchen, where he then accidentally stabbed her as he tried to get the knife out of her hands.
According to WHTM, police arrived at Harrelson's home to find the couple waiting on the front porch, with blood covering their clothes.
The couple's injuries were treated and then they were sent to York County Prison. Both are charged with one count of felony aggravated assault and two counts of simple assault. Stambaugh's bail is set at $70,000 and Harrelson's is set at $30,000.
In the end, Candice Glover defeated Kree Harrison in the 12th season finale of "American Idol." It is unclear if Stambaugh or Glover guessed the winner correctly.
