Former Lakers Flynn Robinson Dies After Losing A Battle With Cancer: He Was A Member Of The 1972 Championship Team

Former Laker Flynn Robinson dies at the age of 72 on Thursday after a two-year battle with cancer.

Nancy Pitts-Robinson, The former Laker Flynn Robinson dies was reported by the Lakers organization when Nancy Pitts-Robinson, his wife told the team that he died at Keck hospital in Los Angeles.

Nicknamed "Mr. Instant Point," the former Laker Flynn Robinson dies, but enjoyed a 14-year career professionally. The 6'1" guard won an NBA title with the Lakers in 1972.  He was a member of the team that holds the record that still stands today for a 33-consecutive game winning-streak.

"We are very sad to hear of the passing of Flynn Robinson," said Jeanie Buss, the Lakers' executive vice president of business operations. "Flynn played an important role on the 1971-72 Lakers team."

Robinson averaged 9.9 points and 2.2 assists in 64 games in that 1971-72 season.

He also played for the Milwaukee Bucks, which was his best statistical season. Robinson averaged 21.8 points  5.5 rebounds per game, which led to his lone all-star appearance in the 1969-1970 season.

During his career, he also made stops in the cities of Cincinnati, Chicago and Baltimore.  His career came to an end in 1974 in the ABA as he played for the San Diego  Conquistadors.
