Julianne Moore's Toe-Mageddon Incident Explained [VIDEO]: Moore Comes Clean About Painful Cannes Toe Gaffe

Julianne Moore's toes were spilling out of her shoes at Cannes. And last night, Moore set the record straight on the whole "toe-mageddon" incident on Jimmy Fallon. She said she'd had "no idea" her toes were stealing the show-but that pressure to be perfect had made her attend to every other detail but forget the pain her feet were in, and that she'd just cut her toes off to prevent "toe-mageddon" from happening again.

Julianne Moore's toes caused gasps around the world at the Great Gatsby premiere at the Cannes Film Festival. Moore's toes could be seen scrunched painfully in the strappy sandals she was wearing on the red carpet. Her pinkie toes were actually splayed outside of the straps. Moore, 52, took the incident in stride. Julianne joked that she'd decided to cut her toes off to prevent what she dubbed "toe-mageddon" from happening again. She gave Jimmy Fallon a silver box of plastic pinky toes, joking "I needed to prevent this from happening again. So I cut my toes off."

'I thought it all went fine,' she told Jimmy 'There's so much pressure to look good, to look perfect, so you worry about your dress, you worry about your hair, your make-up, and I thought I had everything control.

'I was comfortable with my shoes, and I went and watched the movie, but then I went online to see a picture. And what did I see, but toe-gate!'

"'It was a disaster!" Julianne said. But Moore claimed she couldn't feel anything at all. 'I didn't feel a thing-not a thing. I felt fine! I was just walking along, like, "Hiiiii, I'm at Cannes" and my toes are hanging off [my shoes]!''

Next time, Moore will hopefully choose shoes her toes actually fit inside. "You have to be really careful about your footwear at Cannes," she explained. 'You have to be able to walk."
