6 Dead In Chicago Shootings Over Memorial Day Weekend; 17 Wounded in Separate Incidents

6 dead in Chicago shootings over the weekend, the police reported.

Six people were killed in Chicago and at least 17 others were wounded as a string of shootings erupted throughout the city over the weekend.

The Memorial Day weekend’s first fatality involved a 17-year-old man who was shot in the head two times around 11 p.m. Friday in the West Side Austin neighborhood. He was pronounced dead at the scene. An 18-year-old man was wounded in the shooting. He was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital with a gunshot wound to the chest.

A 22-year-old were killed in separate shooting incidents. On Saturday gun violence then took the life of an 18-year-old and a 29-year old. An 18-year-old man was shot to death in and alley between Dorchester and Dante Avenues near 74th Street at at 9:20 p.m. on Saturday. Reports say that a light-colored sedan drove past the alley and began shooting where the man was standing with several other people. The man was struck in the head. He was pronounced dead at the scene. Police said they believed that had gang ties.

A 42-year-old man was shot in the head after a car crash on Sunday morning on Goose Island on the Near North Side. A 44-year-old woman who was in the car was shot in the back. The woman in the car was hospitalized. The shooting occurred at 2:50 a.m. in the 1000 block of North North Branch Street.

The two victims were taken to Northwestern Memorial Hospital. The Cook County Medical Examiner identified the man as Charles Jones. Jones was pronounced dead at the hospital. Chicago Police news affairs Officer John Mirabelli said Jones was the manager of the Factory Chicago gentlemen's club on the Far South Side. Factory Chicago tweeted "God called his soldier home, R.I.P. Charles Jones."

Andrew Holmes, who was a cousin of the female victim, said that the two were driving in Jones' 2007 Maserati, when the car sideswiped. Jones Maserati and was shot while approaching the driver of the other vehicle. No other details are available.

A 27-year-old man was shot in the armpit in the 12100 block of South Indiana Avenue at 2:10 a.m. in a separate incident. Police said he was later pronounced dead at Advocate Christ Medical Center.

On Saturday night a 17-year-old man was shot in the 6000 block of North Kenmore Avenue. He was hospitalized with multiple wounds to his two of his legs. In another incident, a 19-year-old man was shot in the 700 block of West 50th Place in the Back of the Yards neighborhood. Authorities say the teenager was taken to St. Bernard Hospital in stable condition.

There is no evidence that the deaths are related. Recently a 6-month-old child was shot and killed by such a stray bullet.
