Lipstick On Obama’s Collar Not From Michelle, President Explains At White House Reception For Asian-American And Pacific Islander Heritage Month

During the opening remarks of a White House event dedicated to Asian-American and Pacific Islander (AAPI) Heritage Month, Obama began by making a joke about the red lipstick smear on his collar.

Obama pointed to the collar of his shirt and explained the origins of the lipstick smudge.

"Where's Jessica Sanchez? It wasn't Jessica, this is her aunt," Obama said in the East Room, Politico reports. Jessica Sanchez was last year's "American Idol" runner-up. She is of Filipino and Mexican descent.

"Auntie, right there, look at this," he continued, still pointing at the stain on his shirt. "That's why I want everybody to witness."

"So, I do not want to be in trouble with Michelle. That's why I'm calling you out, in front of everybody" he added, drawing laughs from the crowd at the reception.

He referred to the smudge as a "sign of warmth" from the audience.

Obama then moved on to a more serious tone, threading immigration reform into his speech. According to Yahoo! News, Obama referenced the contributions Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders have made to the U.S., and how this demonstrates the importance of the country's immigration system.

Obama gave appreciation to Asian-Americans and Pacific Islanders for helping to build and defend the United States, Yahoo! News reports. The president is currently backing an immigration overhaul that is currently being reviewed in Congress.

The bill, according to Yahoo! News, would reform immigration laws, enhance border security, and give citizenship to roughly 11 million illegal immigrants in the U.S.
