Apple Cuts iPod Touch Price, Also Its Storage and Rear-Facing Camera

The Apple iPod Touch 5th generation has a new version with $70 slashed off the price. The new Apple iPod Touch price cuts were cut when Apple removed the rear-facing camera feature and reduced the storage capacity by half.

The Apple iPod Touch 5th generation is an inexpensive version of the "iPhone without a phone." The regular iPod Touch retails for $299, the cheaper version will sell for $229.

Apple’s new iPod Touch differs from the old iPod Touch because the tech giant got rid of the high-resolution rear-facing iSight camera is gone and it only comes with 16GB of storage. Other changes include that the model will only be availbale in a grey/black color scheme, the full iPod Touch comes in a wide ranges of colors. The lanyard is also gone from the new design.

The new iPod Touch will still contain a front-facing FaceTime camera.

Losing the camera and the storage should only account for a $20 cut from the overall bill of materials. If the overall cost of materials used in the iPod Touch since it was introduced in October 2012, Apple must be absorbing about $45 in reduced revenues.

The fifth-generation iPod Touch was released last year. The 32 GB model was priced at $299. The 64 GB version came with a sticker price of $399. The iPad mini was priced at $329.

Apple introduced the iPod more than ten years ago. The media player is currently in the middle of a sales slump. Apple is hoping the price might boost the aging brand.
