Man Stages Kidnapping: Fake Facebook Account Lures 15-Year-Old Victim To Her Death

Kyle Dube, 20, was indicted for the murder of 15-year-old Nichole Cable on Wednesday after a staged kidnapping using a fake Facebook account ended in her death.

In a released affidavit, Dube lured Cable by impersonating Bryan Butterfield of Bangor and intended to "kidnap Nichole and hide her; that he would later find her and be the hero."

According to Bangor Daily News, Kyle's brother Dustin Dube said he had Cable "meet him down the road [from her house], that he waited in the woods wearing a ski mask."

"He had duct tape, jumped out of the bushes and took Nichole...he put Nichole in his father's pickup truck."

But when Dube removed Nichole from the truck, she was dead.

The affidavit also claimed that authorities learned of the fake Facebook account once the real Bryan Butterfield, a friend of Nichole's, brought it to their attention.

The document also states that Butterfield "knew that Kyle wanted to have sex with Nichole, but that she had refused his advances," alleged FOX News.

Cable reportedly had frequent contact with Dube through the fake Butterfield Facebook account, and eventually agreed to meet with him to get marijuana the night of May 14, Mother's Day.

According to Yahoo! News, Facebook officials cooperated by producing records to identify the owner of the fake account, which led police officials to Dube's parents residence in Orono, Maine.

Dube's girlfriend, Sarah Mersinger, reportedly knew where he left Cable's body after he told her.

Nichole's body was found on May 20 after a massive civilian volunteers search aided by aircrafts and dogs.

If convicted, Dube faces between 25 years and life in prison.
