California Pit Bull Owner Charged With Murder In Jogger Mauling Faces Charges Of Running Marijuana Operation At Home

A California dog owner, who has been charged with murder in the death of a 63-year-old jogger after his pack of pit bulls attacked her, might have been running a marijuana operation from his house, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office told ABC News.

Alex Donald Jackson, 29, was arrested by police on Thursday morning and was charged after DNA tests on his dogs indicated that blood on their muzzles belonged to Pamela Devitt, the jogger who was killed earlier this month.

Jackson, who owned six pit bulls and two mixed-breeds, was arraigned on Friday at the Los Angeles Superior Court and is being held on $1 million bail, according to a statement released by the Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office.

Some of the charges associated with Jackson's drug operation included cultivating marijuana, possession of marijuana for sale and possession for sale of a controlled substance.

"The DNA came back with blood on the dogs that matched the victim's blood," police spokesman Steve Whitmore told Fox News.

Devitt was jogging in the Mojave desert on May 9 when she was mauled by the pit bulls. Drivers passing by who witnessed the incident immediately called 911.

By the time police officials arrived on the scene, she had sustained 150 to 200 puncture wounds, Lt. John Corina of the Los Angeles County Sherriff's County told ABC News.

"When the deputy showed up, Dewitt was still alive. Paramedics thought she would live," Corina told ABC News.
