Mookie Blaylock Improves To 'Serious Condition' After Car Crash But Likely Faces 'Vehicular Homicide' Charge After Death [Video]

Mookie Blaylock almost died last night, but as he recovers from a severe car crash, investigators are looking into what caused the crash, and Blaylock could face charges if he's implicated.

The 46-year-old 'Mookie' Blaylock is a former NBA all-star and defensive whiz, who helped the Atlanta Hawks, New Jersey Nets and Golden State Warriors as a point guard during a 13-year NBA career from 1989-2002.

The scene of the accident last night is as follows: 'Mookie' Blaylock was driving northbound in Clayton County, Georgia, according to police.

But Mookie didn't stay in the northbound lane. Blaylock swerved across the median and into the southbound lane.

After swerving, Mookie's vehicle struck another motorist's automobile head-on, severely injuring himself and two others.

All three were transported to Atlanta Medical Center, where he was initially on life support and unresponsive.

But Mookie's been updated to "serious condition" today by Atlanta Medical Center spokeswoman Nicole Gustin. That doesn't appear to be the end of this incident for the former NBA steals leader in 1996 and 1997.

When Blaylock is in condition to speak with police, he'll likely face vehicular homicide charges in the death of one of the other passengers, 40-year-old Monica Murphy.

Jonesboro police chief Franklin Allen told USA Today, there will be a discussion about the charges next week after he apparently lost control of his Cadillac Escalade and swerved across the median causing the head-on collission with Murphy's husband, Frankie.

Frankie only broke an ankle in the crash, but his wife died of internal bleeding Friday night, according to Allen.

'Mookie' also is in line to face charges for driving on a suspended license and failure to maintain control of the vehicle, Allen said.

Chief Allen said there is already an outstanding warrant in Spalding County for Blaylock for failure to appear on a DUI and drug charge.

Despite the drug and alcohol warrant, there appear to be no signs of drugs or alcohol impairing Blaylock's condition on Friday, but he has experienced seizures recently, Allen said.
