HBO Hit 'The Sopranos' Earns #1 Spot Among WGA's Best Written TV Shows Of All Time

The Writers Guild of America has compiled its own list of the 101 greatest TV shows of all time. This is the first time the WGA has assembled a list of the television shows that its members consider to be the cream of the crop.

Atop the list? HBO's critically acclaimed series The Sopranos.

In addition to The Sopranos, the WGA included such memorable shows as M.A.S.H. and The Twilight Zone.

Those that are doubtful that we're living in the golden age of television may read the list and  be shocked to learn that 17 of the top 100 shows are still on air, including longtime champs such as "Saturday Night Live" and "The Daily Show."

"This list is not only a tribute to great TV, it is a dedication to all writers who devote their hearts and minds to advancing their craft," the organization said in a joint statement.

The release continued, "At their core, all of these wonderful series began with the words of the writers who created them and were sustained by the writers who joined their staffs or worked on individual episodes."
