Before Jeon Somi became a solo artist, the female star was actually supposed to join ITZY, a girl group launched by JYP Entertainment. However, she left the company prior to their debut and joined YG Entertainment's The Black Label instead.
In a broadcast then, Somi revealed for the first time the reason why she decided to transfer agency and promote as a solo artist.
On the 6th, Jeon Somi showed off her pleasant and free-spirited attitude on the latest video uploaded on the Studio Waffle YouTube channel.
In the episode, the female idol promotes her newly released track, "XOXO," as well as talked about her time in JYP Entertainment before finding her new nest with The Black Label.
Why Did Jeon Somi Leave JYP Entertainment? Here's the Reason the Idol Debuted as a Solo Artist Instead
In particular, Jeon Somi rose into popularity in 2015 after she participated in the reality show, "SIXTEEN," the show where TWICE members were selected. Unfortunately, she didn't make it into the cut and was eliminated in the final episode at No. 9.
The following year, Somi joined Mnet's "Produce 101" and successfully ranked No. 1, making her the center of the project girl group I.O.I.
However, in 2017, the project was disbanded; nevertheless, expectations were high that Somi would join the next girl group that will be introduced by JYP Entertainment, not until she left the company in 2018.
In the broadcast then, Lee Yongjin mentioned this to Somi, and the female idol explained the situation for the first time.
"I've never been asked this question before. Everyone is careful, so they won't ask," Somi burst into laughter.
"I'll ask questions without panic. You came out of JYP carefully," Yongjin replied, and asked Somi the real reason for leaving JYP.
"I don't think I've been (active) for a long time after I.O.I. That's why I transfer under YG."

When Lee Yongjin asked, "Do you not regret it?" Jeon Somi firmly replied, "Never," expressing her affection for her current company.
Somi also added that she's 100% satisfied with her The Black Label, YG's subsidiary, in terms of the treatment, environment, income and all.
Meanwhile, when asked why Somi decided to debut as a soloist, Somi smilingly replied.
"As the entire company also jumped out... I'm the only one in the new company, so I naturally became a soloist," joking that there's no other trainee she can debut in a girl group.
Jeon Somi Flaunts Close Relationship with TWICE
On the other hand, Somi attested to her still close friendship with former co-artists under JYP, particularly with TWICE.
When Yongjin asked her close celebrities, Somi only picked TWICE.
"TWICE members. They are still so good sisters. Other than that, there's nothing in particular. I don't have any friends."
