Victim or Mastermind? Fantasy Boys Yoo Jun Won's Lawsuit Sparks Outrage
Yoo Jun-won's recent lawsuit against Phunky Studio, the management agency of Fantasy Boys, has set the K-pop world abuzz with speculation and controversy.
The drama began when Yoo Jun-won, who had previously clinched the top spot on MBC's "Boy Fantasy" audition program in June, joined the 12-member project boy group Fantasy Boys. However, he raised eyebrows by notably absenting himself from the group's debut showcase on August 21st.
Clash of Contracts: Yoo Jun-won's Demands and Phunky Studio's Response
In response, Phunky Studio and PocketDoll Studio issued an official statement, revealing that Yoo Jun-won's departure from the group was unauthorized.
Yoo Jun-won's parents were said to have requested contract revisions and an increased profit distribution rate for their son, citing his No.1 ranking as justification.
On the flip side, Yoo Jun-won's camp countered Phunky Studio's claims, asserting that their requests were merely aimed at rectifying what they deemed unreasonable contract terms.
They emphasized that they had been informed of their right to leave the group if they could not agree to the contract's conditions.
The dispute escalated when Phunky Studio pursued legal action, filing a lawsuit against Yoo Jun-won, seeking over $2,211,950 Million in damages. The Seoul Western District Court's Civil Affairs Division 21 has now scheduled an interrogation concerning Yoo Jun-won's lawsuit against Phunky Studio.
Phunky Studio and PocketDoll Studio took a step further by releasing text messages exchanged with Yoo Jun-won's mother. In these messages, they countered the claim that they had attempted to impose an unfair contract repeatedly.
They argued that the profit distribution clause in the artist's contract, set at a standard 5:5 ratio, was accepted by all Fantasy Boys members except Yoo Jun-won and his parents, who sought a 6:4 ratio in favor of Yoo Jun-won.
Lee Yoon-sang, the legal representative for Phunky Studio, raised questions about the lawsuit, expressing doubt about Yoo Jun-won's commitment to Fantasy Boys' activities and characterizing his contract demands as unreasonable. He even likened the situation to a "celebrity's power trip."

In response, Yoo Jun-won's lawyer, Lee Wan-soo, clarified their stance, stating that their refusal to sign the contract wasn't solely about the profit distribution ratio.
Yoo Jun-won is determined to pursue the lawsuit as part of the final legal proceedings, signaling an uncertain future for both him and Fantasy Boys.
