Kate Middleton Topless Photo: Magazine Editor Charged In Scandal

The Kate Middleton topless photos that emerged shocked or, uh, titillated the world, depending on one's perspective.

Now, almost a year later, the editor of the French magazine Closer that published the Kate Middleton topless photos has been charged.

Editor Laurence Pieau has now been formally charged for violations of France's privacy laws.

The magazine published photos of the Duchess of Cambridge sunbathing topless, and they will stand trial.

Pieau was arrested earlier this month and will go to trial with the publishing director and at least two photographers. Publishing director Ernesto Mauri and photographer Valerie Suau were charged in connection with the case in April.

Middleton was sunbathing on vacation with her husband Prince William in September 2012. A photographer got topless photos of her at Chateau d'Autet in Provence, France-and they are in violation of her personal privacy, prosecutors alledge.

Middleton's lawyer, Aurelien Hamelle, called the topless pics a "grotesque breach of privacy." However, Pieau contends that she had no regrets.

At the time, she said, "These photos are not in the least shocking. They show a young woman sunbathing topless, like the millions of women you see on beaches."

If they're not shocking...why would it be important to publish them?

Pieau added, "It is a young couple that has just been married. They are in love. They are beautiful. She is the princess of the 21st century."

Middleton just had her first baby, in case you've been living under a rock. The royal birth occurred on July 22. Prince George Alexander Louis, Prince William, and Kate are all doing well following the birth.
