Family Dollar Store Murders Alleged Killer Lavere Bryant Arrainged: 'I Did Not Murder Anybody' Faces Two First-Degree Murder Charges

Family Dollar Store murders alleged killer Lavere Bryant was arraigned in court Wednesday for the murders of two workers, which he is now being reported as a former employee of the company in Michigan.

"I did not murder anybody,"Lavere Bryant said in court on Wednesday in regards to the Family Dollar Store murders.

The 34-year-old Dearborn Family Dollar Store employee was charged Wednesday on two counts of first-degree murder as well as armed robbery, unlawful imprisonment, felon in possession of a firearm and felony firearm charges at the Dearborn District Court.

"We are saddened by the loss of Joseph and Brenna and our hearts go out to their families and friends," Family Dollar Store spokesman Bryn Winburn said in a statement. "We have a strong, tight-knit team in Detroit, and our focus is on taking care of them right now as we all work to understand what happened."

There is no information on if and how he lost his job with the store, but Winburn said they are cooperating with police on the matter. Police have also not given a possible motive for the alleged murders committed by Lavere Bryant.

Police and prosecutors said he's responsible for the deaths last week of Brenna Machus and Joseph Orlando, both 20. Machus disappeared on July 15, the same night Orlando was fatally shot in the store. Her body later was discovered in a wooded area less than two miles away, according to the Huffington Post.

The store's surveillance video captured images of a suspect who waved as he walked into the store the night of July 15. Dearborn Police Chief Ronald Haddad credited the community's response with Bryant's arrest.

"We got a slew of good tips that led to this arrest," Haddad said in a statement.

Bryant was ordered held without bond, requested a court-appointed attorney. A preliminary examination is scheduled for July 31.
