Is Smackcam, New Video Fad Of Physical Assault, Cyberbullying? [VIDEO]; Bullying on the Internet Out of Control; Videos of Hitting Include Shaving Cream, Eggs

What is a Smackcam video?  It's a video where someone smacks another person on the social media sharing site Vine.

A disturbing new meme has users posting videos of themselves smacking others.  It started as a video joke amongst friends and has grown.  Videos have grown to include shaving cream, eggs and other things to make the smacks more memorable.

Some are concerned that the smackcam videos could be a bullying phenomenon.  Internet bullying or "cyberbullying" has become an increasing problem among teens and several suicides have been attributed to it.

According to Cyberbullying expert Dr. Joel Haber, Cyberbullying is "a form of bullying which involves the use of email, cell phone and pager text messages, instant messaging, camera phones, and/or defamatory blogs to support repeated hostile behavior by an individual or group towards others with the intent to harm.

"Kids can send each other hurtful and nasty messages, spread rumors or compromising sexual pictures online, hijack others personal information and post it for all to see, and impersonate their target and send horrible, mean messages to others who believe their friend is the cyberbully."
