PS4 Vs. Xbox One Specs: Sony Console 33 Percent Faster Than Microsoft? Report Reveals Playstation 4 GPU Has Higher Peak Performance Than Xbox One

Digital Foundry, a software planning and implementation company, compared the GPU and memory architecture of the Playstation 4 and Xbox One, revealing the PS4 was between 17 and 33% faster than the Xbox One, according to Extreme Tech.

"The PS4 and Xbox One have radically different memory architectures, which will probably give the PS4 the lead early on, but performance might swing towards the Xbox One as developers learn how to use its ultra-fast SRAM effectively," Extreme Tech writes.

"Of course, with the PS4 having a unified memory architecture, the performance crown could swing even further in Sony's favor."

And the Playstation 4 uses 3.5GB of its total 8GB RAM to run its operating system compared to the 3GB the Xbox One uses, the International Business Times reports, leaving gamers wondering if the PS4 will be a faster next-generation console.

The PS4 will use a GDDR5 RAM while the Xbox One will function on a DD3 memory, EuroGamer reports. And Sony's console will feature "flexible memory" which allows users to use FreeBSD virtual memory functionality.

Both consoles will contain 8GB of total RAM.

While many suggest that there are increasing similarities in specs between the PS4 and the Xbox One, others say Microsoft's capability to allow independent game developers the chance to self-publish their own products on the Xbox One will boost their sales.
