K-Pop Pairs: One True Pairings

Let's talk about something that matters in Kpop, something highly controversial that has to be discussed for the good of mankind; One true pairings or OTPs.

If you're new to the wonderful world of Kpop and have little to clue what a one true pairing is or how it's related to Kpop, then here is a basic rundown.

When someone describes a couple (whoever that couple may be, and this applies outside of Kpop as well) as their favorite pairing of all time, then that is essentially what an OTP is. They are comprised of two people who go so well together they should just be connected at the hip with they get married and have children and grow old together.

The reason why OTPs come to life has much to do with the members of a Kpop group being friendly and/or dumb together. One True Pairings exist in Kpop the same reason it exists anywhere else, because the members make it difficult not to ship them together. Remember, these member may not have been friends in the beginning, but they have a lot of history considering that they have been training together with one dream for an average of 5 years.

DBSK is one of the closest 5 member group that I saw when I first got into Kpop. They were all very playful with each other despite describing how they have had their ups and downs in the past. One of the main OTPs from that fandom has got to be YunJae (and everybody knows it). Yunho and Jaejoong have been dealing with their supposed relationship for the next few years since being in a band together, and in that time, they have catered to their fans by being affectionate and loving and genuine towards each other. And it works. It doesn't work for all people, some might not agree with these sorts of pairings, but it does work, judging by the screams they elicit when they interact live.

All groups, in Kpop have pairings of their own that are being shipped together because it's a part of the appeal. The reason why x is being shipped with y is probably because they're the two favorite members of the fan, or simply because they look good together. And these groups, they milk the OTPs when they get on stage to perform for their fans because it works.
