SHINee Continues To Prove They Are SM Entertainment's Stand-Out Artist With 'Selene 6.23'

SHINee's repackaged third album, The Misconceptions of Us was released on August 8 and has since received praise from critics and fans alike.

The five-member boy group has long been heralded as SM Entertainment's break from their usual SMP (SM Music Performance) genre, but that in no way means these guys don't know how to perform, as anyone who has watched a SHINee music video or seen them live can attest to.

Members Onew, Jonghyun, Key, Minho and Taemin have been getting more and more involved in all aspects of the music-making process since their debut in 2008, and the latest release is proof that a lot more is to be expected from the guys in the future.

The cover art for The Misconceptions of Us was created by Key and the latest single, "Selene 6.23," was penned by Jonghyun.

As "Selene 6.23" sits at the top of most Korean online music charts, the group has been gaining more attention than usual.

The beautifully written and vocalized song talks about a man who feels close to his love, but she is still so far away and Jonghyun uses the moon as a metaphor for the relationship.

Selene is the Greek goddess of the moon and June 23 was the day of the super moon, the point at which the moon is the closet to Earth, that had us all gazing up at the night sky in amazement earlier this summer.

"Since when did I start being with you? From the moment I opened my eyes and started to breathe. I was with you every night (we were together), but I can't approach you," read the lyrics in this sad love confession.

"Selene 6.23" is a vulnerable love song that gives SHINee the opportunity to show off their singing abilities, which, as many online comments have suggested, are "chill-inducing."

Another strong release for SHINee that has us all eager to hear more from them in the future.
