Ed Sheeran, Ellie Goulding Dating? Not Anymore, But ‘Lego House’ Singer Says They Had A Brief Romance, Despite Ellie’s Twitter Denial

Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding were rumored to be dating when they were spotted holding hands at the 2013 MTV VMAs on August 25. Despite Ellie Goulding denying the rumors on Twitter, Ed Sheeran has stepped out and said they did indeed have a brief romance.

Ed Sheeran and Ellie Goulding were caught holding hands at the VMAs last month, and now the "Lego House" singer has confirmed that he actually was dating the "Anything Could Happen" singer at the time.

"I mean, normal people don't hold hands if they're just friends," Sheeran, 22, said during a Sept. 4 interview with Washington radio station Click 98.9, Us Weekly reports.

But Ed says they are no longer an item.

"It was going on. And now it's not," Sheeran added.

"She's a really cool girl and she's very talented," he continued to rave. "She's had a No. 1 single for three weeks in England now. It's all going well."

Meanwhile, Goulding, 26, strongly denied the rumors that they were dating on her Twitter. After they were spotted at the MTV awards show, she tweeted angrily: "I love that holding hands with my friends means we're an item."

"In that case I am in many relationships. Lover not a hater. #whatthef*ck."

Sheeran previously had a fling with Selena Gomez, according to Us Weekly in June.

Goulding has dated producer Skrillex, and was also rumored to be seeing One Direction member Niall Horan, but has denied that relationship as well, the website reports.

"Oh God, I knew this was coming!" she told The Mirror in August. "I just can't talk about Niall. I won't ever talk about my love life anymore because it's always then gone wrong when I have in the past."
