J.K. Rowling New Movie Based On Harry Potter Spin-Off Book 'Fantastic Beasts And Where To Find Them': Film Set In New York City During 1920's

J.K. Rowling may have parted ways with Harry Potter, but a new spin-off film has been announced by Warner Bros. based on the Harry Potter fictional textbook, "Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them."

"It all started when Warner Bros. came to me with the suggestion of turning 'Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them' into a film. I thought it was a fun idea, but the idea of seeing Newt Scamander, the supposed author of Fantastic Beasts, realized by another writer was difficult," says J.K. Rowling regarding the new movie venture.

As such, J.K. Rowling has tasked herself with writing the script for the new film, and the movie will surely draw many Harry Potter fans.

"Having lived for so long in my fictional universe, I feel very protective of it and I already knew a lot about Newt. As hard-core Harry Potter fans will know, I liked him so much that I even married his grandson, Rolf, to one of my favorite characters from the Harry Potter series, Luna Lovegood."

According to io9, the new J.K. Rowling movie will be set in New York City 70 years before Harry Potter, which sets the film around the 1920's.

So far, fans have had a diverse set of reactions to the unexpected news.

"Cautiously optimistic? I'm sure by being a prequel to a series that did not anticipate prequels, all kinds of plot inconsistencies will be created that will anger the hard-core, but that's part of the fun, I guess," writes Rob Bricken on io9.

"I would love a young Dumbledore scene. Especially if they actually show he is queer instead of being an informed attribute from the author," continues Irae Nicole.
