Mark Sanchez Shoulder Surgery: ESPN Reports Torn Labrum Requires Season-Ending Surgery, Jets QB Denies Needing It

Mark Sanchez shoulder surgery: The New York Jets quarterback might not have a single snap on offense this season because he has a torn labrum in his right shoulder that requires season-ending surgery in order to heal, according to an ESPN report citing unnamed sources.

Even though the report is that Mark Sanchez needs shoulder surgery, the former first-round pick of the Jets denies any of this to be true.

Mark Sanchez replied to a text message to Adam Schefter of ESPN late Wednesday night about his hurt shoulder: "If I needed surgery right now, I never would have left Andrews' office. I would've stayed and got the surgery." Asked if he wanted to deny that he was likely to have surgery, Sanchez texted: "There's nothing to report. It's reckless."

The shoulder of Sanchez was injured when he came in during week three of the preseason with backups for offensive linemen, he was sacked by the New York Giants and forced to leave the game with a hurt shoulder.

There was a backlash against head coach Rex Ryan questioning why put Sanchez, your possible starting quarterback in there for a game that has no meaning with wins and losses. Ryan said he wanted to win the game.

ESPN claimed they received the news of a torn labrum from Dr. Andrews in Alabama. He's one of the most popular orthopedic surgeons in the country.

A source within the Jets organization told ESPN it would make no sense for Sanchez to delay the inevitable under the circumstances of the injury and the team's commitment to rookie Geno Smith.
