Fifty Shades Of Grey Cast News: What Does Charlie Hunnam’s Girlfriend Think About Him Playing Christian Grey?

While nearly fifty thousand fans have petitioned to replace Charlie Hunnam in the much-anticipated adaptation of the racy novel 'Fifty Shades of Grey', the actor's commitment remained unmoved.

"I went and read the first book to get a clearer idea of who this character was, and felt even more excited about the prospect of bringing him to life," says the Pacific Rim actor.

Hunnam will be playing the role of the novel's male lead, Christian Grey. He is a wealthy businessman who carries a dark past causing him to have a peculiar desire for tormenting women in the bedroom.

Producers of the film have hinted that other actors were not chosen because of their unwillingness to do sexually explicit scenes. On the other hand, Hunnam assures fans that they will not be disappointed because of his vast experiences in doing mature roles: "My first job was on a Channel 4 miniseries called Queer as Folk. It has incredibly explicit sexual scenes with a man. I mean I'm 16 and 17 years wiser now. So if I could do it when I was 18 with a guy, I can certainly do it at 33 with a lady." 

His partner will be 23-year-old Dakota Johnson who Hunnam already feels at ease with: "As soon as we got in the room and started reading with Dakota, I knew that I definitely wanted to do it, because there was a tangible chemistry between us."

Since the movie revolves around sex, many are wondering about the possible reaction of the actor's real-life girlfriend, Los Angeles-based jewelry designer Morgana McNelis

The English actor feels confident that his real-life relationship will not be compromised: "She is required to share certain parts of me with the world that she wouldn't necessarily choose to do, but we have a great relationship, and she loves me and wants to be with me and we've eben together a long time now, and I think she understands and has come to terms with the fact that there are certain elements of me that she is going to have to share. This is an extreme example of that, but thankfully we do have seven and a half years of history together, so it won't be a big problem."

Charlie Hunnam and Morgana McNelis are reportedly living together in a ranch outside of Los Angeles. Prior to his current girlfriend, Hunnam has been married to actress Katharine Towne from 1999-2002.
