When Janelle Monae's new album "Electric Lady" came out on Tuesday people questioned whether the lyrics of some of the songs suggested the singer was gay.

The Huffington Post pointed out that back in April Monae told Billboard that her new album would be "more revealing" and "more personal."

In "Q.U.E.E.N." featuring Erykah Badu, Monae sings, “Am I a freak because I love watching Mary?” and "Hey sister am I good enough for your heaven?" In "Givin Em What They Love," she refers to a woman following her to a lobby for some "undercover love."

After the controversy surrounding "Electric Lady," on-air personality Sway had to sit Monae down for an interview.

Tracy G, Sway's co-host and and open bi-sexual, kicked it off with indirectly questioning Monae about her sexuality.

When initially answering, Monae appeared to lose her train of thought.

"Women are amazing and so are guys," said the singer. "I think that um, or what was your question?"

When Tracey G restated her question, Monae got back on track.

"It's nothing wrong with being bi-sexual. There's nothing wrong with being a lesbian or gay," said Monae. "I advocate. I have friends who are in same sex relationships and I think that love has no sexual orientation. Love has no religious beliefs and love is the purest thing and one of the most important things we can possess for ourselves and for others."

With Monae's sexual orientation still being unknown, Sway just asked the singer straight up, "Do you date men or women?"

"You know what, I keep my personal life very to myself and I think one of the things about that is I want everyone to focus on my music and also I don't want to let anybody down," said Monae. "I want women to still be attracted to me. Go get my album! I want men to still be attracted to me so I have to be political in this. I can't really tell ya'll. I will say I'm such an advocate for love and you should be able to love freely whoever you want."
