Windows Phone Sales: Nokia Smartphones Sell Better Than iPhones In The Middle East, Gets A Total 45.2% Of The Mobile Market

The recent acquisition of Nokia by Microsoft has been in the news for the past two weeks, and rumors that the Finnish manufacturer has already been planning to use Android on the Lumia lineup have further hurt the reputation of the Redmond company in the smartphone industry. However, reports show that there has been a steady growth of Windows Phone sales in the Middle East. 

Furthermore, these same reports show that Microsoft has even beaten Apple in its own game. 

Wait, what?

According to the International Data Corporation (IDC), smartphone sales have definitely increased in the Middle East, exluding Egypt, and the North Africa region. It says smartphone sales have upped by 16.4 percent during Q2 2013 compared to the same period last year. 

As an overview, the mobile market is being dominated by Nokia with 45.2 percet (that's the total for both smartphones and feature phones), while Samsung trails behind with 18.3 percent. 

In the smartphone category, Android is still the most popular OS with over 60 percent of the market. Blackberry's lineup surprisingly comes up at second place with 13.3 percent, and Windows Phone manages to beat iOS with 11.8 percent. 

Apple's iOS came in fourth with only 11.4 percent, but reports show it is still increasing together with Microsoft's Windows Phone.
