Vivienne Westwood Prefers Quality Over Quantity: English Fashion Designer Pleads People To Buy Less Clothes

During the London Fashion Week, the highly-acclaimed designer recently shared her despise for having too many clothes.

"Buy less. Choose well. Make it last. Quality, not quantity. Everybody's buying far too many clothes. I mean, I know I'm lucky, I can just take things and borrow them and I'm just okay, but I hate having too many clothes. And I think that poor people should be even more careful," said Westwood.

She added that not cheap price tags should never lure shoppers to hoard: "It doesn't mean therefore you have to just buy anything cheap. Instead of buying six things, buy one thing that you really like. Don't keep buying just for the sake of it."

While it is unusual for a designer to urge people not to spend so much for clothes, Westwood pleaded people to invest more in culture. She suggested the need for engaging with the human race as well as the need for building different values.

Westwood is known to be an avid supporter of ethical fashion. Last February, she encouraged the Duchess of Cambridge, Catherine Middleton, to repeat her outfits. For Westwood, repeating royal outfits is not only good for the environment but will also send out a nice and sensible message to the people.

The English designer released her Red Label collection for spring/summer 2014 in the five-day trade event. Garden-printed shirts bearing the statement "Climate Revolution" are included in the catwalk collection.

Actress Lily Cole served as Westwood's front-opener. For Cole, collaborating with the designer was an enjoyable experience: "I'm doing it for the love of it and to try to communicate the values we both believe in." The actress is similarly The Body Shop's global brand advocate for its 'Beauty With A Heart' campaign.

The London Fashion Week is vital for designers since the event generates more than £100 million in order according to the British Fashion Council.
